Volunteer Swap in Germany

Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. was founded in 1952. Its core competences cover rescue, transport and medical services, first aid training, meals on wheels, social services, home care and youth work. It holds a state mandate for disaster preparedness and also has a department for international assistance, providing humanitarian aid to people all across the world.

The Project

A team of 60 volunteers offers assistance to elderly people in Siegburg, a city in central Germany.
Our tasks include:
– Regular visits to isolated or lonely people
– Assistance to people who have to fill in official forms
– Computer, smartphone and tablet training specially designed for elderly people
– Transportation services for elderly people like to the nearby supermarket or the doctor´s office
– Weekly E-Bike tours and Nordic Walking courses to ensure physical fitness for everyone
– Conversation groups to practice the languages Dutch and English
– Game circles
– Various kinds of crafting workshops

Our services are free of charge, and all team members work on a voluntary basis.

The Volunteer

Volunteers of  JOIN members are invited to accompany the Johanniter team and get an impression of the tasks. Everyone is welcome to join.

No qualification or other certified skills are required.
Minimum age: 25 years

Accommodation is provided by a host family, offering a separate room for the volunteer.

The Project

Thousands of people live in Berlin without a permanent address. They are acutely threatened, especially in the winter months. Johanniter Berlin help these people all year round. With hot meals and medical care. With warm homes and professional care. For a personal new start. Johanniter offers free anonymous medical care for destitute people in housing need with and without health insurance. Volunteer doctors and experienced medical staff provide free and unbureaucratic care for typical infectious diseases and medical problems resulting from difficult social living conditions. Typical activities include checking vital parameters and examining wounds and injuries. In addition to providing care, motivating patients to seek regular care is also of enormous importance.

The Volunteer

The volunteer is invited to accompany the Johanniter team, get an impression of the tasks and provide care on site. Everyone is welcome to join.

When?

The project continues throughout the year. The shelter is open from November to April. The Kitchen is open daily from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. May to October
Please plan at least 5 days.

Project

The Southside Festival is an annual music festival in the Southwest of Germany with around 65 000 visitors. The Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe is commissioned to provide first aid and medical cover for visitors and guests of the festival in Neuhausen ob Eck.  

The Volunteer

The volunteer will be providing first aid and medical cover to visitors of the festival as part of a crew at a medical service point.

The volunteer will get the chance to work closely together with our volunteers and learn about the organisational structure of a temporary large-scale paramedical service in Germany. During the day off (Tuesday) the volunteer will get the chance to explore the region. A maximum of four volunteers can participate.

Where?

Ravensburg and Neuhausen ob Eck, Germany.

Ravensburg is a medieval town near Lake Constance and the Alps, in one of Germany’s premiere holiday regions.

When?

Monday, 17th to Monday, 24th June 2024

Arrival on Monday, 17th June, before 6 p.m.

Who can apply?

All volunteers of JOIN member organisations aged over 18 that have at least a First Aid education of around 60 hours.

Languages: English, German

Other important information

Accommodation is free of charge. You will be quartered at a location nearby.

It is possible to visit the concerts free of charge during off-duty hours.

Clothing sizes should be known beforehand and as soon as possible, to allow us to provide sufficient work clothes.
