Two Austrian volunteers at Munich Mash in Germany

During the last week of May, two volunteers from Austria joined their German colleagues at the Munich Mash, one of the largest action sport events in Europe, to support the medical team and gain valuable cross-border experience in paramedicine. Jakob Brabec reports:

“From the 27th to the 29th of May, we had the great opportunity to volunteer at the “Munich Mash”, which is one of the largest and most spectacular action sport events in Europe. The motto “MUNICH. ACTION. SPORTS. HEROES.” was vividly lived throughout the event and was reflected both in the breathtaking shows and the professional work of all helpers.

The team in Munich welcomed us warmly and made us quickly feel at home. Our new colleagues ensured to introduce us to all relevant practices for the following two days and we were thus able to work together closely and respond professionally and effectively to various emergencies.

Although the volunteer swap came with several challenging moments, the experience gained from it far outreaches these difficulties. The insights we gained in the past two days were significant, which is especially due to the differing education to work/volunteer in paramedicine in Austria and Germany. Aside from the paramedicine team we also cooperated closely with the event management and security team on sight which ensured smooth and professional handling of emergency situations.

What impressed us Volunteers the most was the passion and professionalism of everyone involved whether athletes, organizers, or the medical team. This event was not only an opportunity to expand our medical skills but also an experience that strengthened our enthusiasm for helping people and working in a team.”

“Pure adrenaline – not just for the athletes! As a volunteer paramedic at MASH, I had the opportunity to be at a festival, help people and learn alongside.”

“The vibe at MASH was super relaxed, the team really awesome – working as a paramedic was a lot of fun. Special shoutout to Antonia from Saturday, it was really cool hanging out with you!”
