Volunteer Swap in Austria

Founded in 1974, Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe in Austria provides rescue, transport and medical services with its ambulances and realises first aid training. With five regional organisations throughout Austria, Johanniter is also active in civil protection, services for people with disabilities, palliative care, youth work, and first aid at public events.

The Project

The volunteer will participate in the ambulance service provided for the music event “Wenn di Musi spielt” in Bad Kleinkirchheim, Carinthia. About 15.000 visitors are expected. Johanniter provides ambulance service and first aid during the performances.
JOIN Volunteers learn about Johanniter ambulance service provided for big events and get involved in Carinthian ambulance system in a rural and attractive alpine area.

The Volunteer

A maximum of two volunteers will join the volunteers of the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe and take care of the visitors’ medical needs. About 40 voluntary paramedics are on duty to take care of the guests.

The Project

 The Donauinselfest on the Danube Island in Vienna is an open-air music festival and has been held annually since 1984 towards the end of June. With more than 2.5 million visitors over three days it is one of the largest music festivals with free admission worldwide. Austria’s capital Vienna has 1,9 million inhabitants. Vienna offers its visitors touristic highlights, such as the city centre, the Vienna Prater, museums and other sightseeing attractions besides the visit to the Vienna branch of Johanniter.

 The Volunteer

 A maximum of two volunteers are invited to join the volunteers of Johanniter Austria to take care of the visitor’s medical needs.

 The music festival takes place from 22rd to 25th of June. Plan for at least 5 days including arrival and departure.

The Project

The Neustifter Kirtag is an event which has been staged in the 19th district in Vienna since 1754. The Viennese Winegrowers situated in this beautiful area celebrate their harvest and this year’s wine with thousands of people. It takes place annually on the third weekend of August and lasts from Friday until Sunday. During this time, the Mainstreet in Neustift becomes a pedestrian zone with market booths, food trucks, music and much more.

After a break in 2020, the Neustifter Kirtag will take place again this year between the 19th and 22rd of August.

The Volunteer

A maximum of four volunteers will join the volunteers of the Johanniter Unfall-Hilfe Vienna and take care of the visitors’ medical needs. About 40 voluntary paramedics are on duty every evening from 4 pm to 2am to take care of up to 30.000 guests a day.

The Project

 Johanniter’s disaster relief service provides support with medically trained staff and the necessary infrastructure, including emergency vehicles, medical tents, emergency shelters, technical equipment or medical material.

 The Volunteer

The volunteer is invited to be part of Johanniter’s biggest disaster relief exercise scenario, which takes place once a year. The exercise with different scenarios takes place at a military training area including collapsed buildings or tunnels. Without a permanent water or electricity supply on site an independent supply must be established with our own means.

 The exercise takes place from 1st to 3rd September. Plan for at least 5 days, including arrival and departure.

The Project

The volunteer will participate in the ambulance service provided for big events in the city of Vienna. The events at the National Holiday at Heldenplatz and Rathausplatz in the very centre of Vienna include
presentations of the Austrian Army and a wide variety of institutions involved in security, disaster prevention and health services. About 100.000 visitors regularly participate in the events. Johanniter provides the most ambulance resources together with Malteser, Red Cross and Samaritarians.

The Project

The volunteer will participate in the unique acute care service of Johanniter in Vienna and be part of a team of care and ambulance staff. The team provides acute care emergencies with a wide variety of care situations.
Volunteers will learn about this specific service and get involved in Vienna´s health and care system.

The Project

Johanniter Austria operates facilities for homeless people in Vienna during the winter season. These emergency shelters offer homeless people and people affected by housing loss a roof over their heads, washing facilities and a warm meal during the period from October to April. The Volunteer

Volunteers are invited to assist with administrating new residents, and serving meals, hot drinks and other consumables.

Scheduled patient transports to and from the hospital or doctors’ offices are common. The ambulance car, with two trained paramedics on board, also responds to emergency calls.

The Project

The volunteer will participate in mobile care service of Johanniter in Tyrol and support employed care staff. The Johanniter care service (not stationary) assists elderly and ill persons. The Volunteer will learn about the care system in Tyrol and get involved in Tyrol health and care system in the city of Innsbruck.

Innsbruck is the capital of Tyrol and located in the middle of the Alps. With its 120,000 inhabitants, it is the political, economic and cultural centre of one of the most popular touristic regions in Austria.

The Volunteer will participate in mobile care service in Tyrol, support and assist care team.
