The Volunteer Swap is an intercultural and international exchange programme for all volunteers of JOIN member organisations. It emphasises the value of volunteering for society and enables its participants to gain new experiences within the international JOIN family.
Johanniter International member organisations invite volunteers from other countries to support them doing their job. Johanniter International refunds 50% of the travel costs up to 250 €. The volunteers are usually provided with food and accommodation.

From Thursday, August 21 to Sunday, August 24, 2025, Johanniter Austria once again ensured medical safety at the traditional Neustifter Kirtag in Vienna. Their teams were supported by three German volunteers who joined their colleagues for a week.
During the last week of May, two volunteers from Austria joined their German colleagues at the Munich Mash, one of the largest action sport events in Europe, to support the medical team and gain valuable cross-border experience.
In late November 2024, an Austrian Volunteer from Vienna visited St John Ambulance in England.
In October, Byron and Andrew took part in a volunteer swap with Johanniter Austria for their National Holiday Celebrations in Vienna.
At 42.195 kilometres, with a record-breaking 55,000 runners and thousands of spectators, the 50th BMW BERLIN-MARATHON was an event of superlatives.
Gregor from Germany joined Austrian Johanniter crews of two ambulance shifts and reports about his experiences and notable differences to procedure in his hometown and country.
In the second week of June, three Austrian volunteers travelled to Lake Schiedersee in Germany to provide first aid at the annual music event.
On July 5th, 2024, the youth group from Johanniter Youth Carinthia, accompanied by Managing Director Petra Grell-Kunzinger, traveled to the Johanniter Regional Competition in Baden-Württemberg.
